When the Kent Registration Service approached us in 1998 their requirement was for a commemorative wedding certificate for couples getting married at an approved premises within Kent and further they also required a structured method to personalise these certificates to ensure reliability and accuracy.
Our chief designer Alan Craddock met with Martin Alford, Head of Registration for Kent County Council and his team on the 9th March 1998 to discuss the project.
Put simply Martin and his team wanted a certificate that their customers would be proud to receive, and also that his staff would be proud to present. It had to incorporate the following:
We designed 12 draft certificates showing different styles and presented them to the Kent team. Our clients reduced these drafts to 3 possible contenders and then asked the designer to produce another design using elements from each of the short listed candidates. At a further meeting the additional certificate was presented and was accepted.
A final printers proof was prepared for the clients’ approval and then the certificate was printed and delivered.
Our clients wanted to achieve a uniform appearance to the certificates. They were aware that whilst the certificate design itself is a fixed known quantity the personalised content whether it be written by hand or printed from a word processor could vary wildly. What was needed was a structured method of producing individual certificates, which was reliable and accurate.
Create-a-Certificate© makes the production of the Kentish Wedding Certificate easy. The software has been designed so that even the most inexperienced member of staff can produce a certificate. A straight forward on screen form filling process guides the operator, prompting for details when required and finally a preview facility to allow the checking of details prior to printing. The programme stores the details of over a 100 approved premises in Kent as well as the Kentish Register Offices. This information can be selected for printing onto a certificate thus saving the task of typing in some information.
